Dilution Solutions 1 1/2 Water Hammer Arrestor for Hi-Flo Lines
Every time a solenoid valve slams shut on a fast-moving column of water, the pressure spikes and the whole line jolts. That shock travels back through the fittings, the filter housing and the Dosatron body on every irrigation cycle. This kit, part WHA150-SS-KIT, puts a stainless arrestor on the line to absorb it. The arrestor is #316 stainless steel, built for a normal operating range of 35 to 500 psi. It is rated for spike pressures up to 2,000 psi. Dosatron recommends one wherever quick-closing solenoid valves control the water. Everything needed to mount it comes in the box. Alongside the arrestor sit a reducer bushing, a tee, a 4 inch nipple and an elbow. A close nipple, a union and a roll of pink thread seal tape complete the set. The tee runs in line with the main pipe, and the arrestor stands upright on top of it. The union lets you take the assembly back out without cutting pipe. It is the water hammer piece of Dilution Solutions' 1 1/2 inch Hi-Flo nutrient delivery kits. The Dosatron doser is sold separately.
Building the Water Hammer Arrestor Kit Onto the Line
Dilution Solutions places the assembly after the doser and its bypass rejoin, just ahead of the blended solution outlet. Upstream, the recommended layout runs a ball valve, a 200 mesh filter, a pressure regulator and a check valve. Start by wrapping every male thread with five or six turns of tape, always clockwise so it does not unravel. Thread seal tape is the only sealant to use, so leave the pipe dope on the shelf. Thread the long nipple into the center opening of the tee. Hold the tee with that nipple pointing left, then fit the reducer bushing into the top opening. Thread the arrestor onto the bushing so it stands vertical. Attach the close nipple to the elbow, then screw the elbow into the bottom opening of the tee. Turn it so its nipple faces right, toward the outlet. Finish by fitting the union onto the close nipple. Bring the water on slowly the first time and check every joint for weeping. Once the solenoids start cycling, the line should close without the familiar bang.
