TrolMaster TS-2 for Heat Pumps and Multi-Stage HVAC
The TS-2 takes the place of a wall thermostat and hands control of a standard HVAC unit to the Hydro-X. It runs four system types: heat and cool, cool only, heat only and heat pump, including multi-stage equipment. Conventional systems land on R, W, Y, G, W2 and Y2, while heat pumps use R, O/B, Y, G and AUX/E. R carries 24VAC from the heating transformer, and the station reuses the existing color-coded thermostat cable. Power arrives over the RJ12 link from the controller, so no separate supply is needed. The LCD shows the setpoint on the upper line and the room temperature below it. One Hydro-X runs up to four TS modules, each with its own day and night settings. A five-minute restart delay follows every heating or cooling stop, and in Auto the fan runs on for one minute. An adjustable activation delay staggers several systems so their start-up inrush does not land at once. A micro-SD slot handles firmware updates. The station is rated IP20 for indoor use and carries ETL and FCC listings.
Wiring a Hydro-X Thermostat Station Where the Old Thermostat Hung
Mount it where the old thermostat hung, so the existing cable reaches without a new run. Label each conductor before pulling it off the old unit, because heat pump and conventional layouts use different terminals. Plug the RJ12 into the Hydro-X DEVICES port and press the Addressing button, and the controller assigns it a slot. From then on the room follows the controller's lights-on and lights-off targets. Rooms with two or more split systems gain the most, since the staggered start keeps breakers from tripping when everything calls together. A blinking Cool On or Heat On message means the restart delay is still counting, not a fault. Auto fan moves air only while the system runs, while On keeps the air handler circulating. The honest limit is that it is not a standalone thermostat. Without a Hydro-X, it has nothing to follow. Mini splits that take only infrared or app commands need a different interface, because this station switches thermostat wires. Keep it dry and away from supply-air vents.
Key Features
- Four System Types: Heat and cool, cool only, heat only and heat pump, including multi-stage equipment.
- Standard Thermostat Terminals: R, W, Y, G, W2 and Y2 for conventional units, or R, O/B, Y, G and AUX/E for heat pumps.
- Up to Four Stations: One Hydro-X controls four HVAC systems with separate day and night setpoints.
- Staggered Start Delay: An adjustable activation delay keeps inrush current from several units off the same moment.
- Compressor Restart Protection: A five-minute delay follows each stop, and the fan runs on for one minute in Auto.
- No Extra Power Supply: The station runs from the RJ12 link and updates firmware through a micro-SD slot.
