Netafim IRT Water Meter for 3 in Mains on Dirty Water
Canal, pond and well water often carry sand, algae and organic debris that wear out or jam a conventional meter. The Netafim 'IRT' is built for exactly those moderate to dirty conditions. Its paddle wheel sits at the top of the water passage, leaving a free path below so debris passes without clogging. That open passage also keeps head loss low on a busy main. This is the 3 in reed switch version, item 70261-009200, model 36IRT3F, with flanged connections. The body is cast iron with a polyester coating, rated to 230 psi and 140°F. Bearings are flushed constantly during operation, which stops solids from building up. The stainless steel encapsulated register is guaranteed not to fog or hold moisture. Its reed switch sends one dry-contact pulse for every 10 gallons. Accuracy is ±2% from 45 GPM up to a 500 GPM maximum, and ±5% from 20 GPM.
Installing an Agricultural Water Meter on a Flanged Main
Netafim intends this meter for main supply lines in agricultural service, upstream of filters, fertigation and zone valves. Pulses into the irrigation controller give real gallons per block, which matters for water budgets and allocation reporting. Allow ten pipe diameters of straight pipe upstream and five downstream, which works out to 30 in and 15 in. With the 9 in meter between them, the run needs about 54 in in total. The meter can be fitted in any position, but flow should run upward whenever it is not horizontal. Flush the pipeline thoroughly before installation, and keep the pipe full of water at all times during metering. Continuous acting air vents of the right size remove trapped air that would otherwise skew the reading. Maintenance is quick because this agricultural water meter splits into three parts: register, metering assembly and body. The calibrated measuring unit is field replaceable, so the body can stay bolted in the line. A tamper proof seal guards the register, and the warranty runs three years on metering parts and five on the body.
