This is the standard configuration of the small Series 80, item 71640-007406, model 61ET1GH2. A 24VAC solenoid sits on the 1 in globe body, matching the zone outputs of most irrigation timers and greenhouse controllers. Solenoid draw is low, at 0.22 A inrush and 0.095 A holding, with a tolerance of ±10% on voltage. Netafim rates that draw at 50 to 60% below the industry average, which allows very long wire runs from controller to valve. The solenoid is encapsulated, and it is built to stay stable through voltage swings and to shrug off dirt. Recommended flow is 0.01 to 44 GPM, a bottom end low enough for single mist lines and micro-drip. Working pressure is 7 to 150 psi, with water up to 140°F. Glass-reinforced polyamide forms the body, bonnet and seat, with 304 stainless hardware and a 302 stainless spring. The whole valve measures about 4-1/8 x 3 x 4-1/2 in and weighs 0.64 lb. Netafim also lists it as compatible with all major 2-wire control systems.

Setting Up a 24VAC Irrigation Valve on a Bench Zone

Wire the two solenoid leads to the zone terminal and common on the controller, using direct-burial or irrigation wire sized for the run. Mount the valve upright with the flow arrow pointing downstream, since the 2-way body is built for vertical installation. Before the first automatic cycle, use the improved manual selector to bleed air. It vents the valve internally, so nobody has to loosen the solenoid and get sprayed. Turn the selector handle one way for manual and the other for automatic operation. The flow control stem then trims each zone from fully closed to full capacity while laterals are balanced. Friction loss is about 3.4 psi at 8 GPM and 4.1 psi at 20 GPM, rising to 11.5 psi at the 44 GPM limit. Command water enters through a clog-free labyrinth inlet, so the valve keeps working on dirty or reclaimed water. Normally closed operation means the zone shuts whenever the controller drops its 24-volt signal. A drip-tight seal closes cleanly at the end of each cycle, so this 24VAC irrigation valve does not keep weeping between runs.
