A 3-way valve uses line pressure as its muscle, which makes it quick and decisive on large zones. When the solenoid admits line pressure to the control chamber, the fully supported diaphragm closes the valve. When it vents that chamber, the diaphragm lifts and the zone opens wide. Loss through the body stays very low when the valve is fully open. It drops only about 0.7 psi at 40 GPM and 3.0 psi at 90 GPM. Rated flow is 0.25 to 176 GPM at 7 to 150 psi, with water up to 140°F.
