Netafim Series 80 2 Inch 120VAC Valve for Line-Voltage Control
Plenty of greenhouse automation still switches pumps, fans and irrigation from 120-volt relays and contactors. This Netafim valve fits that kind of panel, putting a 120VAC solenoid on the 2 in Series 80 globe body. Netafim lists it as item 71610-013971. The straight-through globe body is rated for 0.25 to 176 GPM at 7 to 150 psi, with water up to 140°F. That range covers anything from a handful of drip laterals to an entire range of benches on one zone. Friction loss stays modest, at about 5.0 psi at 100 GPM and 8.5 psi at 140 GPM. Body, bonnet and diaphragm seat are glass-reinforced polyamide, with 304 stainless bolts and a 302 stainless spring. It is a 2-way, normally closed valve with an integrated check valve, so the zone stays shut until the coil is energised. Command water feeds the diaphragm through a clog-free labyrinth inlet. The housing measures about 6-9/16 x 6-1/2 x 6-5/8 in and weighs 2 lb.
Wiring a Line Voltage Irrigation Valve Safely
Line-voltage coils make sense where irrigation already switches through a 120-volt controller output, relay board or contactor. They also suit retrofits in buildings that never had a low-voltage irrigation transformer. Treat the wiring like any other mains circuit, with proper enclosures and an electrician signing off where code requires it. This line voltage irrigation valve will not cycle from the 24-volt terminal of a standard sprinkler timer. Mount it upright with the flow arrow pointing downstream, since the 2-way Series 80 is built for vertical installation. Keep the bonnet reachable in the valve box, because the flow control stem sits on top. That stem trims the zone from fully closed to full capacity while laterals are balanced. Size the zone with headroom, because loss through the globe body climbs quickly toward the top of the flow range. Filter the water ahead of the zone for the sake of the emitters. Each cycle closes drip-tight, so the zone does not dribble between waterings.
Key Features
- 120VAC solenoid: Switches from line-voltage controllers, relay boards and contactor panels.
- 0.25-176 GPM range: One 2 in valve covers a few drip lines up to a full bench range.
- Straight globe body: Inline inlet and outlet fit a straight header run.
- 7-150 psi rating: Handles municipal, well or booster-pump pressure.
- Flow control stem: Throttles or fully closes the zone while balancing laterals.
- Normally closed with check valve: The zone stays shut until the coil is energised.
- Glass-reinforced nylon: Corrosion-resistant body with stainless hardware for fertigation water.
