Netafim Series 80 AC Valve on the Largest 2 in Angle Body
The 2 in angle body is the biggest valve in the Series 80 nylon line, and this build runs it on the standard coil. Netafim lists it as model 61ET2GH2-AN, with a 24VAC solenoid that tolerates ±10% supply voltage. Water enters through the bottom and turns out the side, so the valve replaces the elbow on top of a riser. Rated flow runs from 0.25 to 176 GPM, enough for a full greenhouse range or a large nursery block on one zone. Working pressure spans 7 to 150 psi, with water up to 140°F. The angle shape is also the freest-flowing body in the family, losing about 4.1 psi at 100 GPM. At 180 GPM that figure only reaches about 9.5 psi. Body, bonnet and diaphragm seat are glass-reinforced polyamide, held with 304 stainless bolts and a 302 stainless spring. The whole valve weighs 1.8 lb and measures roughly 3-1/2 x 6-1/2 x 6-13/16 in. It is a 2-way, normally closed design with an integrated check valve. Command water reaches the diaphragm through a clog-free labyrinth inlet.
Wiring and Plumbing a 2 Inch Angle Valve in the Field
Any controller with a 24-volt AC station output can drive this valve, using one common wire and one station wire. Coil draw is low, at 0.22 A inrush and 0.095 A holding. Netafim rates a 12-gauge pair at up to 6,800 ft from controller to valve, and 14-gauge at 4,300 ft. That reach suits outdoor blocks and long greenhouse ranges where the controller sits in a head house. Set the 2 inch angle valve on a riser with the bonnet up and the solenoid easy to reach inside the valve box. The side outlet turns the flow toward the header without an extra elbow, which saves joints and leak points. The flow control stem trims the zone from fully closed to full capacity while laterals are balanced. Fit a filter ahead of the zone for the emitters, since the labyrinth inlet only protects the valve's own control chamber. Because the valve is normally closed, a controller fault or power cut leaves the zone off. A drip-tight seal ends each cycle cleanly, which keeps runoff out of the walkways.
Key Features
- Standard 24VAC solenoid: Drives from the station terminals of common irrigation timers and greenhouse controllers.
- 0.25-176 GPM range: Covers a full greenhouse range or a large nursery block on one 2 in valve.
- Angle body: Bottom inlet and side outlet replace the riser elbow and cut joints in the valve box.
- Low friction loss: About 4.1 psi lost at 100 GPM, the freest-flowing body in the Series 80 family.
- Long wire runs: Low inrush and holding current allow up to 6,800 ft on 12-gauge wire.
- Flow control stem: Throttles the zone or shuts it completely during balancing and repairs.
- Normally closed with check valve: Stays shut on power loss and until the controller calls for water.
