Netafim 1 Inch 24VDC Control Valve for DC Automation
Greenhouse automation increasingly runs on DC, from PLC output cards to the relay boards inside climate computers. This Netafim build puts a 24VDC solenoid on the compact 1 in Series 80 globe body, item 71610-013966. Apply 24 volts DC and the zone opens; remove it and the normally closed valve shuts. That one-to-one logic makes the output state on the panel and the state of the zone the same thing. The 1 in body handles 0.01 to 44 GPM, which makes it a natural fit for propagation mist and small drip blocks. Working pressure runs from 7 to 150 psi, with water up to 140°F. Netafim gives the small Series 80 bodies an improved manual selector that bleeds the valve internally without touching the solenoid. Glass-reinforced polyamide forms the body, bonnet and seat, with 304 stainless hardware and a 302 stainless spring. The valve measures roughly 4-1/8 x 3 x 4-1/2 in and weighs only 0.64 lb. A clog-free labyrinth inlet feeds command water to the diaphragm chamber.
Driving a PLC Irrigation Valve From DC Outputs
Wire the coil to a DC output channel or relay, and size the 24-volt supply for every valve that might open at once. On long cable runs, DC loses voltage along the wire, so heavier gauge cable keeps far zones pulling in reliably. Because the valve fails closed, a tripped breaker or a faulted output card leaves the zone dry rather than flooding the bench. That behaviour suits fertigation and mist zones where an uncontrolled run costs more than a missed cycle. Mount the valve upright with the flow arrow pointing downstream, since the 2-way body is built for vertical installation. Bleed air on start-up with the manual selector, then switch it to automatic before handing this PLC irrigation valve over to the program. The flow control stem trims each zone from fully closed up to full capacity while laterals are balanced. Friction loss is about 3.4 psi at 8 GPM, rising to 11.5 psi at the 44 GPM top of the range. The labyrinth inlet keeps the valve working on dirty or reclaimed water without an internal filter. A drip-tight seal closes cleanly at the end of each cycle.
Key Features
- 24VDC solenoid: Switches from PLC outputs, climate computers and DC relay boards.
- Fails closed: Normally closed body shuts the zone whenever the DC signal drops.
- 0.01-44 GPM range: Suits propagation mist through small drip blocks on one 1 in valve.
- Improved manual selector: Bleeds the valve internally and switches manual or automatic without touching the solenoid.
- Flow control stem: Trims or closes the zone by hand while balancing laterals.
- Labyrinth inlet: Keeps command water flowing on dirty or reclaimed water.
