Tap water brings chlorine, hardness and dissolved solids that throw off nutrient recipes and pH. This HydroLogic unit strips those out in three stages before water reaches the reservoir. Stage one is a pleated, cleanable sediment filter that catches dirt, silt and rust. Stage two is a green coconut carbon block that removes chlorine and other toxins. Stage three uses two 150 GPD thin film composite membranes to cut total dissolved solids. Together they produce up to 300 GPD, about 12.5 GPH, removing up to 99% of contaminants. That rating is based on source water at 65 psi, 77°F and 500 ppm. A flush kit ships with both 1:1 and 2:1 flow restrictors, so you can set the waste to product ratio. The 2:1 restrictor gives the best membrane life, while 1:1 saves water on low ppm sources. An inlet pressure gauge with safe zones shows when line pressure is in the operating range.

Setting Up a 300 GPD Reverse Osmosis System

This 300 gpd reverse osmosis system connects to a garden hose or a 3/8 inch supply line. Kit parts include white inlet tubing, black waste tubing, blue product tubing, an inline shut-off and a double-ended housing wrench. Flush the new carbon filter and membranes before the first use, following the manual. Keep inlet pressure under 80 psi, and add a pressure regulator if the supply runs higher. Protect the unit from freezing and from direct sun or grow lights, which degrade the housings. Membranes tolerate no chlorine, so change the carbon filter on schedule. Replace carbon every 1,250 gallons of purified water. Clean the sediment filter regularly and replace it every six to twelve months. Membranes last six months to two years depending on use and source water. Chloramine-treated city water calls for the optional KDF85 catalytic carbon filter. Hand tighten the housings only, and replace both clear pre-filter housings every three years.
