GeoPot 20 Gallon Self-Supporting Fabric Pot

A big plant in a big fabric pot is only easy to work with if the pot stands open while you fill it. This GeoPot 20 gallon pot does that on its own. The top edge is folded over and stitched, which gives the rim enough body to hold its shape. A square bottom keeps it upright on the floor or bench, with no frame or stakes. The walls are a thick, non-woven polypropylene geotextile made from BPA-free plastics. Air moves through the fabric on every side of the root zone. When a root tip reaches the wall it meets that air, stops and branches. The result is a dense, fibrous root mass instead of roots wound around the inside of the pot. Excess water drains through the fabric, so the medium does not sit waterlogged. Quad stitching with marine-grade thread holds the seams together under constant moisture. The fabric stands up to prolonged UV exposure outdoors. GeoPot rates it for up to 5 growing cycles with washing between runs.

Filling and Running Black Grow Bags This Size

Set the pot where it will finish before filling, because a full one is heavy to drag. Fill with soil, coco or a soilless mix, leaving a little space below the rim for watering. Fabric drains faster than plastic, so water until a little runs from the base, then wait. A pot this size suits a single large plant through a long veg and flower cycle. It also works for tomatoes, peppers or a small fruit tree on a patio. Stand it in a saucer indoors, or raise it on a pot stand so the base can breathe. Under drip irrigation, plan for more frequent, shorter cycles than a rigid container needs. In hot weather, check moisture daily, since the black fabric absorbs heat in full sun. Grouping pots together shades their walls and slows drying. After harvest, tip out the root ball, scrub the fabric and let it dry before storing it flat.
