EZ Trim 1/2 Inch Bud Sorter Grate in Stainless Steel

Size grading only works when every opening in the grate is the same, bud after bud and hour after hour. This EZ Trim grate holds a fixed 1/2 inch spacing across its whole surface. It measures 25 x 19 1/4 inches and drops into the frame of the full-size EZ Trim Bud Sorter. It is also one of the standard grates that ship with the full machine. The grate is food-grade stainless steel, so it can handle finished flower directly and washes clean between lots. The sorter itself is gravity-fed, with no motor, no vibration and no moving parts. Product is pushed across the grate with soft food-grade brushes, and that light touch keeps trichomes on the bud. Anything narrower than half an inch falls through into the collection tote under the grate. Everything wider stays on top and moves on toward the next station. The full machine is rated for 70 to 90 lb of dried, finished buds an hour with one operator. Running both sides with two people roughly doubles that rate. EZ Trim positions the sorter as a quality-control station, used after dry trimming or ahead of drying wet flower. A spare grate keeps the line moving while a dirty one is being washed.

Running the Grate as a Bud Separator on Harvest Day

Set the grate in its slot and press it down until it sits flat and steady in the frame. Slide an empty tote underneath before the first batch goes on. Spread a single, loose layer of buds across the near end of the grate. Brush them forward with short, light strokes so they roll rather than drag. A thin layer lets every bud meet an opening, which keeps the cut clean. Clear the tote before it fills, so sized pieces never pile back up against the grate. When sorting wet flower before the dry room, wipe sap off the grate between batches. With dry, finished buds, resin builds more slowly, but the openings still need a quick check each hour. Label each tote with the grate size and the lot, so the sorted flower stays traceable through packaging. At the end of the shift, lift the grate out and wash it in warm, soapy water. Rinse it well, apply a food-safe sanitizer if your program calls for one, and let it dry completely. Store it flat, away from heavy items that could bend the frame. Kept straight and clean, it holds the same half inch cut season after season.
