A clear bowl full of nutrient solution under grow-room or greenhouse light is an ideal place for algae to start. On a 3/4 inch LoFlo nutrient delivery system, that bowl is the Dosatron mixing chamber that sits between the dosers. This sleeve, part MC34-SHADE, wraps the clear portion of the bowl and shuts the light out. With no light reaching the water, algae cannot take hold and biofilm loses its head start. The cover is custom-sized neoprene, cut to fit the 3/4 inch chamber. A black base and trim finish the edges and keep stray light from creeping in at the bottom. Neoprene is soft and flexible, so the sleeve conforms to the bowl rather than sitting loose around it. It slides on and off by hand, with no tools and no need to touch the plumbing. That matters, because the clear bowl is still the quickest way to see what is happening inside. Slip the sleeve down, look at the blend and any sediment, then pull it back up. Fit the sleeve once the panel is plumbed and the chamber has been filled and checked for leaks. Slide it over the clear bowl from below until the black base sits square at the bottom. Smooth the neoprene so it lies flat against the bowl with no gaps at the seam. Any panel under lights or near a window gains from one, and so does a panel in a greenhouse with bright daylight. Check the bowl at every routine inspection by pulling the sleeve down for a moment. A green tint or a slimy film on the inside wall means the system needs a clean. Warm water speeds up any growth inside the bowl, so summer checks matter most. Rinse the sleeve with clean water whenever you service the chamber. Let it dry before refitting so it stays fresh between runs. Keep a sleeve on every clear chamber in the run, since one uncovered bowl can seed growth downstream.
