What the Perlite Actually Does in Coco Perlite RTU Bags
The blend is seventy per cent coco to thirty per cent coarse perlite, measured by volume rather than weight. Perlite is doing one job here, and it is not nutrition. It holds no meaningful charge and feeds nothing. What it does is occupy space with particles too large and too rigid to pack down. That leaves air in the root zone once an irrigation drains. That matters because roots respire. A medium that stays saturated starves them of oxygen long before anything else does, and coco alone holds a lot of water. Adding coarse perlite raises air-filled porosity and shortens the time the medium spends wet. The trade is real and worth stating plainly. A free-draining blend holds less water, so it dries faster and needs feeding more often. On a frequent-feed drain-to-waste schedule that is exactly what you want, because every event refreshes the oxygen as well as the nutrient. On a hand-watered schedule, or in a cool room with long gaps between irrigations, straight coco is the safer medium. Pick by how often water will actually arrive, not by which sounds better. The coco itself is buffered before blending, so the calcium swap is already done.
How Ready to Use Grow Bags Are Built and Sized
Every bag arrives already filled with medium. There is nothing to expand, hydrate or wash, and no pot to clean afterwards. The top tears along a perforation, so it opens by hand. Thirty two drainage holes are punched only part way through, which holds the medium in on the truck and opens under the first watering. Those holes face several directions so water does not sit in a corner, and microperforations across the bag let air reach the root wall. A 6 in gusset keeps a wet bag from tipping when it is moved. The outer is dark green to keep light off the medium. Sizing needs one explanation, because the labels look wrong and are not. The small bag is labelled 1 gallon because it holds one Imperial gallon, which is 1.2 US gallons. The large bag is 2 US gallons. Pallets run 400 of the small and 350 of the large. Testing is handled by third party labs for pH, conductivity, mineral content, heavy metals, pesticide residue and microbials, at source, on arrival and before shipping.
Key Features
- Seventy to thirty by volume: Buffered coco with coarse perlite, not a weight ratio.
- Perlite raises air porosity: Rigid particles leave air behind once an irrigation drains.
- Built for frequent feeding: Drains fast, so it suits drain-to-waste rather than hand watering.
- Arrives filled and ready: Nothing to expand or hydrate, and no pot to wash afterwards.
- 32 part-punched drain holes: Shut on the truck, open under the first watering in the room.
- 6 in gusset, dark green outer: A base that resists tipping and a skin that keeps light out.
- OMRI Listed, buffered coco: The calcium swap is done before the coco is blended.
- Two sizes on a full pallet: 400 of the smaller bag, 350 of the larger one.
