What a High Mineral Probiotic Amendment Contains

Two things go into the root zone here and they work on different timescales. The mineral side is calcium, magnesium and iron. Those are the three a soil most often runs short of once nitrogen and potassium are handled. The biological side is mycorrhizal fungi and Trichoderma. Minerals are immediate and physical; microbes take time and then keep working. Putting both in one amendment means the biology lands where the minerals are, which is the sensible way to do it. The format is dry, so it mixes into a medium or top-dresses rather than going through a tank. It suits soil and living soil best, and works in potted plants and indoor systems as well. Four sizes are made, from a single pound up to twenty. Cost per pound falls as the size rises.

What Trichoderma Actually Does Down There

Trichoderma is a soil fungus that colonises the root surface and competes with the organisms you do not want. It holds territory, which is a different job from feeding the plant. Root pathogens have to find bare root to establish, and a colonised root has less of that going spare. Mycorrhizae do the other half of the work, extending the root system's reach for phosphorus and water. Neither is a rescue treatment. Both want to go in early, ideally at transplant, and both want a medium with organic matter in it rather than an inert slab.
